In 2020, our society went from elevated outfits for the office with our co-workers to working from home offices wearing an“okay” top and sweatpants.

For many of us, working from home came with obvious perks: flexibility, no morning commute, and comfort. But somewhere along the way, as our outfits began to fade into the background, so did our motivation to show up as our best selves.

For the last decade, I’ve helped entrepreneurs and leaders worldwide curate wardrobes that both look and feel good. With this societal shift, I’ve styled many professionals as they show up virtually for board meetings, client trainings, podcasts, and more! What I’ve learned with this shift is that most people struggle to be noticed in this virtual world. But being noticed is, in fact, how you’re going to have the most impact.

Why Does Dressing for Remote Work Still Matter?

The “Zoom Mullet” has taken over. But here’s the thing: how we present ourselves still shapes how we feel, how we speak, and how others perceive us.

Getting dressed with intention—yes, even for your virtual meetings— creates an important psychological shift. A strong outfit empowers you to step more confidently into your role. It also signals to your brain (and your body), “I’m here. I’m ready. I got this.”

I’ve watched clients who used to dread being on camera light up when they wear something that feels empowering, and most importantly, feels like them. Their energy and confidence gets a major boost! My clients are taking up more space, and people around them can quite literally feel it.
And let’s not forget: the virtual world is still real life.

In this remote world, your image on Zoom is often the only version of you that colleagues, clients, or leadership sees. In this way, this has to be your time to show people who you truly are!

This week, try dedicating the same time and care to getting ready as you would for a day in the office. Then notice how your presence shifts, how your work flows, and who else starts to notice! Let me know in the comments what happens! I would love to hear!

I help women and men alike translate their most authentic selves into what they wear, so they feel confident, aligned, and ready for the opportunities ahead. Whether you’re preparing for a keynote, a virtual interview, or simply want an elevated, effortless wardrobe for your work-from-home days, I bring the tools, expertise, and heart to make it happen!

Happy Zooming! 💛

XO,

Marisol
