I have to tell you the craziness that came up on this podcast I was interviewed for 😮.

The podcast is hosted by a client of mine, Marta Sokol-Klepacka, who lives in Scotland, and who I styled for her branding and marketing photoshoot.

During the interview, she told me about criticism she received from another business owner who then went on to make a video addressing “all women,” to tell them they should not wear makeup, nor should they use professional photos in their marketing.

WAIT. WHAT DO YOU MEAN, SIR?

No surprise, but I had a lot to say about this 😆. You can hear his exact criticism as well as my response in the YouTube video below (start at 6 minutes and 50 seconds).

And while my overarching response is always going to be that YOU CAN WEAR WHATEVER YOU WANT, and that is no one’s business what wear and when you wear it, I decided to give him the tiniest bit of benefit of the doubt to consider the following:

That he was trying to do women a favor by countering the societal expectations that you need to put on a facade or alter yourself in some way for the purpose of appealing to others.

The problem is that the societal expectation is to actually care what others think. He played right into that. It’s also a misconception that getting dressed up and wearing makeup (add in hair, nails and any other adornment) is solely for the public gaze.

Clothes evoke a feeling. What you wear is a visual reflection of who you are and if adorning yourself enhances your authentic expression and beauty, you have full permission to do it! And while you don’t need my permission, it’s always nice to hear someone say, “I fully support whatever choices you make for yourself.”

I will always support your choice to wear what you want to wear,

especially when you not only look good, but you feel good too!

So again, yes, you CAN do it.
